Case Study
Interactive Storytelling
Bringing Data & Analytics Solutions to Life
The Challenge
KPMG Ignition operates 11 state-of-the-art Insights Centers worldwide collaboration spaces designed to showcase data & analytics (D&A), AI, NLP, and ML solutions for top clients. These spaces rely on large interactive touchscreens powered by MT Canvus to create immersive, visually engaging presentations.
However, a significant challenge arose:
- Traditional presentations weren’t engaging enough. Static decks and lengthy explanations failed to capture the complexity and impact of D&A solutions.
- Stakeholders needed a scalable way to tell compelling stories. Teams struggled to present solutions in a way that resonated with clients.
- The pandemic forced a shift to virtual experiences. Interactive, in-person demos had to be adapted for the web without losing impact.

My role
I was responsible for intake, storytelling, creative design, and managing our in-house and off-shore development teams to create a seamless interactive storytelling experience.

Lessons Learned
- Stories drive engagement. Clients and stakeholders connect best when data is framed in a narrative.
- Scalable processes enable high-impact results. A repeatable design system allowed us to execute at speed.
- Collaboration fuels innovation. Real-time feedback loops improved quality and alignment.
- Virtual experiences can be just as powerful as in-person. By adapting interactive demos for the web, we ensured continuous engagement despite the pandemic.
The Solution

To help clients and stakeholders visually understand complex data solutions, we developed responsive web experiences that combined:
- Animated process flows – Breaking down complex concepts into digestible steps.
- Data visualizations – Making AI and analytics solutions tangible.
- Interactive simulations – Enabling clients to engage directly with the technology.
The Process
I developed a structured, repeatable workflow to streamline development while ensuring stakeholder engagement:
Discovery: Defining the Narrative
Stakeholder Intake
Partners and Managing Directors filled out intake forms to define business needs.
Strategic Interview Sessions
We asked hard-hitting questions to establish the story arc:
- What makes this solution unique?
- How does it differentiate from competitors?
- What value does it provide to the end-user?
- What technologies are leveraged?
- Why KPMG?

User Flows: Structuring the Experience

Story Outline & Collaboration
Before focusing on visual design, we first mapped out the flow of the story based on a story framework in Confluence using:
- Pre-designed storyboard tiles
Like wireframes, this structured the narrative without visual distractions. - Real-time collaboration
Iterating quickly with stakeholders to refine the flow. - Approval process
Once validated, we moved to UI design and script development.
“These experience transformed how we engage with clients. The bring solutions to life in a way that presentations can’t.”

UI Design: Crafting the Experience
With the story structure in place, I designed high-fidelity, interactive experiences using:
- ICE (Insights Center Experience) Design System
A scalable, consistent component library - Figma
Used for collaboration, stakeholder feedback, and design presentations. - Adobe Creative Cloud
For refining visuals and animations.
This approach ensured consistency and efficiency, allowing us to produce high-quality experiences at scale.

UI Design: Visuals

Development: Turning Design into Code
Working with a 7-person team, including in-house and offshore developers, we brought the designs to life using:
- HTML, CSS, React, and JavaScript – For interactive, responsive storytelling.
- D3.js – For advanced data visualizations.
- Scalable architecture – Ensuring adaptability across different screen sizes and devices.

Finalization: Script, Training & Deployment

Once the experience was developed, we:
- Finalized a presentation script for client-facing teams.
- Created training videos and documentation to assist presenters.
- Deployed the experiences across Insights Centers and web platforms.

Ignition+: A Self-Service Discovery Portal
To eliminate time-consuming inquiries and increase transparency, I designed and launched Ignition+, an internal online discovery portal where users could:
- Search and explore interactive stories by category or keyword.
- Access self-service insights on D&A solutions.
- Reduce reliance on manual requests for information.
This tool streamlined internal knowledge sharing, freeing up teams to focus on innovation.

Final Thoughts
The Power of Storytelling in Data & Analytics
This project proved that interactive storytelling is essential for translating complex AI and analytics solutions into compelling, understandable narratives.
By replacing static presentations with immersive, interactive experiences, we empowered teams to:
- Engage clients more effectively.
- Streamline internal knowledge sharing.
- Drive tangible revenue growth.
When data meets design, the result is more than just an interface—it’s an experience.
